The GNR stated that the seizure took place last Thursday during an operation to monitor the movement of goods within the country, specifically targeting parcels transported by distribution companies.

During the inspection, various items "showing signs of counterfeiting" were detected, and five official reports were filed regarding "suspected illicit acts" under the Industrial Property Code.
The operation resulted in the seizure of over 1,400 counterfeit items, specifically 999 sports jerseys, 437 pairs of glasses, four T-shirts, two pairs of sneakers, five pairs of tracksuit bottoms, and four hats.
The GNR estimated the commercial value of the seized items at approximately €14,125.
The security force described the operation as part of its efforts to combat counterfeiting, noting that the 2026 Football World Cup is currently underway—a period when demand for jerseys and other items associated with clubs and national teams increases.
According to the GNR, purchasing these items harms industrial property rights holders, consumers, legitimate business operators, and the formal economy, while also fueling fraud and tax evasion networks.
The security force warns that industrial property offences can serve as a funding source for more serious forms of crime, urging consumers to prioritise legal sales channels and reject counterfeit products.
