Regarded as one of Portugal's most prestigious historical reenactment events, this year’s fair adopts the theme "Xilb, City of Poets and Sages."

This 21st edition celebrates the ancient city's era of greatest cultural, scientific, and literary splendour, transporting visitors back to a time when the city stood as a major intellectual hub of Al-Andalus.

It evokes the atmosphere of ancient libraries, centres of learning, and gardens where the words and wisdom of philosophers, poets, scientists, and musicians were the ultimate symbols of prestige and power.

Medieval stage

Over the course of nine days, the streets of Silves transform into a living medieval stage, populated by more than a hundred exhibitors, including artisans, merchants, mystics, and confectioners.

This immersive atmosphere is enhanced by authentic décor, traditional crafts, period costumes, and a culinary experience rich in the sounds and aromas of the past.

Daily festivities kick off at 6 pm with the traditional Medieval Procession, which winds through the Medina and the outer districts, featuring dozens of participants in period attire.

Visitors can also witness thrilling medieval tournaments at Al-Mu'tamid Square, with daily shows at 8 pm and 10:30 pm, and enjoy roving music, dance, and theatre performances that bring the era's poetry, science, and history to life.

Silves Castle

The iconic Silves Castle will also host various artisans, offering the public a unique opportunity to discover ancestral techniques and knowledge.

One of the year's key highlights is the gastronomic offering, specifically the "Vizier’s Table" banquets, which will take place daily at the Alcáçova.

This exclusive experience, available by advance reservation only and with limited capacity, invites guests to savour a Muslim-inspired menu designed to recreate the flavours and lavish evenings of the ancient Islamic court.

As of the time of this publication, it has not been possible to obtain statements from the Silves City Council due to scheduling.

The full event program, along with detailed information on tickets and activity reservations, is available on the initiative's official website at feiramedievaldesilves.pt.
