24,000 properties still held by banks

Banks in Portugal continue to hold a substantial number of properties for sale, the top six banks alone holding 24,000.

According to a report by ECO News, the total value of bank held properties in the country stands at €4.3 billion.

Novo Banco, Montepio and BCP banks all own more than 5,000 properties each, the majority of which are residential, while there are also a number of commercial properties still on the books.

During the first trimester of 2019, BCP sold 1,094 properties, representing a total of €149 million.

More than 7,000 bank owned properties have been sold since 2017
