An outbreak of covid-19 was detected on 21 July at a meat processing company in Tomar, with 34 infected among about 200 employees, and the facilities were closed to control contagion.

In a statement, the Câmara de Tomar, in the district of Santarém, states that "so far 34 employees have tested positive for covid-19" in Ribasabores and that, "following a proposal from the health delegate", it was decided to "close the company, after all workers have been tested" for the new coronavirus.

"The municipal social services are, since the beginning of the afternoon of 22 July, making the social and family diagnoses of the cases, to do the screening [...] and the proper monitoring of the necessary cases", it can also be read in the note.

According to the Câmara de Tomar, "the positive cases that do not have housing with conditions to comply with confinement are being transferred to the naval base of Alfeite".

The company Ribasabores is headquartered in the Parque Empresarial de Tomar.

Of the 200 or so employees, about half took the test as early as 21 July, with the first results coming in the evening, with 34 positive cases.

The rest were being tested on 22 July and the results are still pending.

"In the next few hours, and after knowing more results and possible contagion lines, more measures will eventually be taken," says the municipality.
