€35M investment in senior residential homes

Spanish group Clece, which has two senior residences in Portugal, will invest more than €35 million in two other facilities over the next 20 years and aims to reach 10 units, the company announced.

"This is a strategic business area for the group, especially in Portugal, where average life expectancy and the trend towards active ageing require options adjusted to this new reality," said the group, which operates under the Clece Vitam brand.

The company recently opened a new unit in Lisbon, after having inaugurated its presence in the Portuguese market in 2007, in Fátima.

"Two more residences are also planned in Portugal: one in São Domingos de Rana and the other in Valença do Minho, for a total investment of more than €35 million over the next 20 years. All these residences will have a capacity of more than 60 people and will employ more than 100 people".

The group also informed that in the Senior Residence in Areeiro, (Lisbon) "to date, 30 jobs have been created in various professional areas, and it is intended to hire about 40 more professionals, assistants, cooks, nurses, psychologists, entertainers and physiotherapists.

The group guarantees that it provides adequate training for all these professionals.

Bruno Moreira, general director of Clece Portugal, quoted in the statement, said that there is "an increasingly ageing population in Portugal, but also an increasingly active one".

"We intend to consolidate Clece Vitam's business in Portugal through the two current residences and evolve to the construction of the two we have in the planning stage", he stressed, ensuring that the long-term goal will be to reach "ten residences".

The Clece group was founded in Spain in 1992 and has more than 75,000 staff in Spain and the United Kingdom, in various business areas, including senior home management, facility services, airport activity, cleaning and maintenance.

The company currently has more than 2,500 employees in Portugal.
