In a statement, SEF indicated that half a million people controlled at Authorized Crossing Points (PPA) with Spain were reached on 29 May, in an operation started on 16 March with the collaboration of the National Republican Guard.

According to SEF, in these two and a half months, the PPA with the highest number of controls was that of Valença, which exceeded 200 thousand, representing about 50 percent on average of the total number of people controlled at national level, followed by Caia with around 70 thousand, and Vilar Formoso with 60 thousand.

SEF adds that, during this period, around three thousand people were still prevented from entering Portugal because the need to cross the border was not justified.

That security service also indicates that, in compliance with precautionary measures, 15 people have been detained to date.

SEF also mentions that the work on person control has been facilitated with the use of an application, called SEF Mobile, which has already allowed a fast and secure control of more than 100 thousand citizens.

The control of land borders with Spain has been carried out since 23:00 on 16 March at nine authorized crossing points due to the covid-19 pandemic and will remain closed until 00:00 on 15 June.

Within the scope of border control, tourist and leisure travel between the two countries is prevented, with only the transport of goods, cross-border workers, seasonal workers, emergency and rescue vehicles and emergency services being allowed.
