"The government, as soon as it became aware of the situation … asked [airport operator] ANA for explanations and immediately asked [it] to take steps to withdraw a post that is contrary to the interests of the … nation’s economy," a statement issued by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing reads.
According to the ministry, ANA "has already started looking into what happened and immediately withdrawn the link in question", after deputies for the governing Socialist Party (PS) and opposition Social Democratic Party (PSD) had reported the campaign, which was for flights to the city of Marseille.
The text called on people to "flee the Algarve confusion and relax in France".
The two parties’ positions were expressed by two deputies who represent Faro, with Cristóvão Norte of the PSD describing the campaign as "defamatory" and demanding that the post "be immediately removed" or and Luís Graça of the PS calling for "the immediate suspension" of the campaign.
Norte said that he had received "dozens of complaints" from his constituents about the campaign.
In the meantime, the president of the Algarve tourist board, João Fernandes, also "vehemently" condemned the campaign as an “attack on the image of the main national tourist destination". However, he expressed his "confidence in Faro airport as one of our main partners committed to the success” of tourism in the Algarve.
I've just come back from the Algarve and it is just an amazing holiday destination. The French resorts need to up their own game before trying to poach from other countries.

Absolutely disgusting on behalf of ANA, who of course are a French company and rather ironic as so many French people are buying property here in the Algarve because of the high taxes in France. I hate to quote him, but in the words of Donald Trump "If you don't like what you find here in the Algarve, GO HOME!

We just got back from Algarve and loved it can’t wait to go back next year. Algarve is one of Europe s best kept secret places. And special thanks to people of Portugal for their genuine hospitality. Love Algarve and Portugal. Bom Dia

I think it is hilarious (and sad at the same time) that there is not a vetting protocol to approve any advertising.

The Algarve is my favourite place to visit and my husband and I travel back to visit a few times per year. It's our number one place to go since we discovered it about 10 years ago and it's only a three hour flight from the UK. The people are beautiful and hospitable, the scenery is breathtaking, the beaches are fabulous, the food out of this world and the sun shines throughout the year - we love going in the winter months to soak up the sun. It also has a rich history and lots of places to visits. My husband and I have been all along the Algarve from St Antonio Vila Real in the Eastern Algarve to the Western Point of Cape St Vincent in the west and we have a different experience each time. It is value for money and if you have never been I recommend you go see for yourself.

The only confusion in the Algarve is trying to get out of Faro airport on arrival. If ANA got their act together and organised their queues at immigration a bit better it would impact on the tourists perception of your beautiful and friendly country. We have been coming to the Algarve for over 30 years holidaying in the Sao Bras area. This May 2019 was the worst arrival experience in that time with too many flights from different destinations arriving at the same time. We are coming back in September 2019 and look forward to seeing what improvements, if any, have been made

Portugal is one of the most beautiful places on this planet. My husband and I go there as often as we can. We have been to many places but Portugal is by far our favourite. The people are so friendly and their food is superb. Very clean too.

Ireland...
We travel to the algarve 4/5 times per year, we stay 5 weeks in the summer months and we have traveled the world, but nothing beats the feeling when you step foot of that plane and hit the algarve!.... best feeling ever!
Coming to the algarve 10 year's and we will continue for many more to come.
Everything about the algarve is great, sunshine, people, food ,wine, environment, beaches, culture, very very family oriented, and it is so inexpensive... unbelievably cheap!
One of the best destination I can recommend.
Just go and see it for yourself!

Trevor John Roberts if you hate to quote him, then why quote President Trump? Perhaps you know he is correct and all the time. We love President Trump.
