The Green Key award, an international symbol for the promotion of sustainable tourism, acknowledged the efforts of 28 hotels, one restaurant and two local hospitality businesses in the Algarve.

At the award ceremony held in Alvor, the region was lauded for its efforts, which saw an extra 21 hospitality units ascend to the ranks of the Green Key distinction.

The President of the Algarve Tourism Region, João Fernandes, highlighted the importance of “businesses being recognised and valued on behalf of tourists for their good environmental practices and developing tourism in a sustainable way while meeting the Green Key’s programme objectives”.
