“The detainee will now be handed over to the Portuguese authorities, in order to be subjected to judicial interrogation to apply the measures considered appropriate,” informed the PJ, adding that the investigation is being conducted by the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Loulé Section of the Department Research and Penal Action (DIAP) in Faro.

The suspect of qualified homicide is "a 21-year-old man" who, according to thePJ investigation, is said to have "fled the scene, immediately after committing the crime", which occurred in the early hours of 23 August, 2019, near a nightclub in Albufeira.

“The set of investigations carried out allowed the collection of relevant evidence, culminating in the location of the suspect on the outskirts of Paris, where he ended up being detained, today [12 August], by elements of the Central Directorate of the French Judicial Police, at the request of the Portuguese authorities and in the presence of elements of the Southern Directorate of the Judiciary Police,” said this police organisation responsible for criminal investigation in Portugal.

In a statement, the PJ said that the victim of the crime of qualified homicide that occurred a year ago, a 19-year-old man, "was fatally hit by a projectile fired by a firearm."

The victim belonged to the staff at Lick nightclub and was shot dead in the head in the early hours of 23 August, 2019, outside the nightclub, the manager told Lusa at the time.

At the time, Fernando Pacheco, manager of Lick, lamented the events that occurred outside the space and that “culminated in the death of an employee”, expressing himself available to provide “all support to the competent authorities so that those responsible for these acts are brought to justice as soon as possible”.
