An August filled with entertainment in the Algarve

The Algarve will be welcoming a packed programme of events, entertainment and fun throughout the month.

The Algarve Regional Tourism Board (RTA) have announced the highlights of the month in their latest agenda which includes White Night in Loulé, the Seafood Festival in Olhão and the Sardine Festival in Portimão.

Sardines are the stars of the show in Portimão, with the event dedicated to this delicacy, which is traditionally accompanied by bread, potatoes and the Algarve salad. Beginning on 7 August, the sardine festival continues until the 11 August and also takes place along the Arade River with handicrafts, animation and concerts.

In Olhão, the historical Seafood Festival takes place annually in the Jardim do Pescador Olhanense, overlooking the Ria Formosa. Between the 9 and 14 August you can enjoy prawns, clams, oysters, crabs, lobsters, and many more treats in various dishes. Over the six days there are also various musical moments provided by Matias Damásio, Áurea, HMB, the Queen tribute band “Killer Queen”, Paula Fernandes, Ludmilla and the Resistencia.

On the last day of the month, 31 August, the streets will turn white in Loulé with the return of the eighth edition of Loulé White, which takes place in the city’s historic area and includes emblematic buildings such as the Castle, the Parish Church, the Municipal Market, the Largo de São Francisco and José da Costa Mealha Avenue.

And because the Algarve is a land of diverse attractions, events multiply throughout the region. From culture to sport, there are several suggestions that are part of the “Algarve Guide” designed to appeal to visitors and residents alike.

These include Fatacil (16 -25 August in Lagoa); Folkfaro, which brings together folklore groups from around the world in the Algarve capital (between 17 and 25 August, in Faro); ESTAR - Encounters of Theatre and Street Animation (22 and 24 August, in Aljezur / Odeceixe); the return to the Middle Ages at the Silves Medieval Fair (from 9 to 18 August) and the Castro Marim Medieval Days (between 28 August and 1 September); and the International Masters Futsal (22-25 August, in Portimão).

Edited monthly by RTA, «Guia Algarve» is a bilingual publication (Portuguese and English), with a circulation of 70,000 copies in August and free distribution in hotels, travel agencies, tourist offices, Faro airport, rent-a-car and golf courses in the area.
