App drivers permit fines without effect under new law

Permit fines issued to drivers for app platforms such as Uber and Cabify and which total more than €4.6 million will be rendered without effect after the new regulation law comes into effect next month.

News channel SIC claims close to 3,000 fines have been issued for lack of authorization, mainly in Lisbon, Porto and Faro, each costing €2,000. But with the coming into force of the so-called Uber Law on 1 November, which saw taxi drivers strike in protest across the country, the fines will no longer have to be paid.
