A source from the Faro Rescue Operations Central told Lusa News Agency that the alarm was raised at around 4pm on Monday afternoon and that when fire-fighters arrived at the scene the restaurant “was consumed by fire.”
Fire-fighters were unable to put the flames out before the establishment was completely destroyed.
Their job would not have been helped by the fact most beach restaurants in Portugal are wooden structures.
A source from Silves council said the eatery involved belonged to the luxury Vila Vita resort, on Pescadores beach, near to where local fishermen leave their traditional boats.
