Arrest made in attempted murder of GNR case

A 42 year old Portuguese citizen has been arrested in Seville on suspicion of the attempted murder of two GNR police relating to a case that took place on 15 June in the Coimbra area.

According to a statement from the PJ police, the suspect was found and detained in Seville on 28 June by members of the Spanish Homicide team in Seville. PJ police then sent their own team to the city to carry out further investigations which resulted in the seizure of relevant evidence to the case.

The Portuguese authorities have now initiated legal proceedings, including the issuance of a European Arrest Warrant, to facilitate the extradition of the suspect back to Portugal.

The suspect is said to already have criminal records in both Spain and Portugal in relation to violent crime.
