ASAE inspects 135 beach-based tourism companies

The Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE) has carried out a surveillance operation, from north to south of the country directed to the tourist animation companies and the maritime-tour operators active in the various ocean and river beaches, which at this time of year see a substantial increase in the influx of tourists, domestic and foreign.

Tourism animation companies include the provision of sea-touristic tours, the rental of boats with and without crew, services by river or sea taxi, tourist fishing, services of a maritime-tourist nature provided by the use of moored or anchored boats and without their own or sealed means of propulsion, rental or use of personal watercraft and small vessels not required to register, among others.

As a result of the action 135 economic operators were inspected and 8 infringement proceedings were initiated, the main offenses being the exercise of tourist activities without registration, the lack of compulsory insurance provided for the activity, the non-compliance with the prohibition of smoking outside smoking areas and complaints book irregularities, among others.

It was also determined the suspension of activity of 3 operators, two for the exercise of activity without registration and one for lack of compulsory insurance.

ASAE will continue to carry out supervisory actions, within the scope of its competences, throughout the national territory in order to ensure healthy and fair competition between economic operators.
