Births in Portugal up during first half of 2020

The number of births in Portugal rose slightly during the first six months of this year, according to the number of ‘heel prick tests’ carried out

A total of 42,149 of the compulsory tests were registered during the first half of 2020, up 11 on the same half of 2019.

The heel prick test, or blood spot test, is carried out on almost all newborns which screens for a number of conditions that are rare, but treatable if detected early.
