In a statement the police said that they suspect the bones to be those of a missing British citizen connected to a suspected murder case dating back more than a year.

"It was necessary to resort to technical-scientific methodologies of forensic archeology, as well as georadar equipment, to locate the corpse," said the statement.

According to PJ, the remains which were found in a wooded area will now be taken to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine and Forensic Sciences (INMLCF), for autopsy.

"The investigation is being conducted in close collaboration with the UK law enforcement authorities," concluded the statement.
