This will be the third consecutive year that Botelho competes in the circuit after finishing the 2018/19 season last Sunday.

The 28 year old surfer from the Algarve has shown continuity throughout the season finishing 4th in the Nazaré Challenge and 17th in the Jaws Challenge in Hawaii.

“Representing Portugal is a motivating force,” Alex Botelho said. “I want to continue transmitting the positivity that Portugal has, not only at the level of athletes, but of the people and the culture. This achievement is only the first part of a bigger goal”, stressed the big wave surfer.

João de Macedo was the second best Portuguese competitor in the rankings, finishing the year in 11th place with 5,528 points, missing out on the top ten by only 200 points. As for the remaining Portuguese surfer, João Guedes finished in 25th place and Nic von Rupp and António Silva in 29th place.
