In the period between 17 June and 12 July the town of Cacela Velha will be the subject of archaeological excavations, with the goal of analysing ancient vestiges of past civilizations.

The investigative project, named ‘Muslims and Christians in medieval Cacela: shifting territories and identities’, is the outcome of a collaboration between the Regional Directorate for Algarve Culture, the University of the Algarve, and the Vila Real de Santo António Town Hall.

During the excavation period, there will also be free events available to the general public. On the 27 June, there will be a conference on medieval funerary practices, while on the 9 July there will be an open day to visit the site, and on the 13 July it will be possible to go on a guided tour, accompanied by the archaeologists who worked there.
