The event, organised by Silves council with the support of the Algarve tourism board, Algarve Wine Route and Silves Sul School Group, will involve 15 different restaurants in the local area.

“We continue to promote our individual identity as a municipality, including our traditions, culture and gastronomy,” said Silves mayor Rosa Palma.

“We valueour produce, from the mountains down to the sea, making sure that we can promote these to everyone during events such as these”

This year the participating restaurants in the event are A Grelha, A Lota, Churrasqueira Balbino, Coentros, Estrela-do-Mar, Marisqueira Hera, O Casarão, O Fernando, O Pelintra, O Silvense, Olivalmar Beach Café, Pôr-do-Sol, Rocha da Palha, Taberna da Carne and Vista Mar, with all serving up dishes relating to caldeirada and the flavours of the sea.

Alongside the great food, there will also be entertainment including a one man band playing 17 different instruments who will feature in the venues over the weekend, while there will also be a presentation and tasting opportunities taking place at 10am in the market on 25 May.

Caldeirada is a fish stew made up of a wide variety of fish and seafood and potatoes, it is known for being unique to different areas of the country, depending on the fish that is caught locally.
