At the press conference to monitor the pandemic, António Lacerda Sales was thrilled when asked about the fact that in the last 24 hours there had been no deaths from the new coronavirus, which has not happened since 16 March.

“It has been very difficult these days and I wanted to say that we are very happy that this has happened. We look at these figures with humility and caution, because we know that from one moment to the next the situation can be reversed”.

As a result, Lacerda Sales asked citizens to continue their “individual and collective efforts” so that they “help maintain this process” and ensure that there are more days with “zero deaths”.

The Secretary of State stressed that there is "a great unpredictability" in any pandemic, noting that "there are many months to announce deaths and, from a human point of view and for a health professional, it is not good".

"We will wait for the next few days to assess carefully, with humility and with the determination of those on the ground, together with health professionals and the public health structure to combat this pandemic," he said.
