Champions League-Benfica bids farewell

Benfica bid farewell to the Champions League on Tuesday in a match against the Russians Zenit and in which they seek the 'consolation' of third place in Group G and a trip to the UEFA Europa League.

At Luz Stadium, in a game that starts at 20:00, the 'eagles' are obliged to beat Zenit 2-0 or by three or more if they concede a goal - which would tie the Russians - or even 1-0, but only if Lyon lose against Leipzig.

The Germans, with ten points, are already in the last 16 of the Champions League, while Zenit and Lyon, both with seven, are looking for second place, and Benfica, with four points in third place, which would minimize the European meltdown.

In the last three seasons, the 'eagles' have failed to make it through the group stages: in 2017/18, they finished last and only beat AEK Athens. This season they managed to beat Lyon at home.

For today's game, Rafa and André Almeida are both injured.

Last season they were relegated to the Europa League, where they reached the quarterfinals, where they were pushed out by the Germans Eintracht Frankfurt.
