The Batman star should be somewhat familiar with Portugal as he lived in this country for part of his childhood.
Bale will star along-side Oscar Isaac in the historical romance “The Promise,” directed by ‘Hotel Rwanda’ director Terry George.
Variety reports that the script, written by George and Robin Swicord, “Centres on a love triangle with a medical student (Oscar Isaac), an American journalist based in Paris (Bale) and a beautiful and sophisticated woman (Charlotte Le Bon).”
The plot takes place in the final days of the Ottoman Empire, which was dissolved by the World War allies in 1922.
Castings were recently held at the Lisbon School for Hospitality and Tourism for extras to star in the movie.
Of the 1,200 candidates who auditioned on 5 and 6 August, 400 were chosen to make up the team of extras.
Reportedly, at the time, they were warned by a member of the team that no one is to take pictures of Christian Bale or to ask for photographs.
Filming will also take place on the Canary Islands. The movie is due for release next year.
