According to the October 16 judgment, to which Lusa had access on Wednesday, the 32-year-old defendant was convicted of the crimes of computer fraud and defamation.

She will also have to pay damages of €6,500 to two former colleagues harmed by her actions.

The facts date back to early 2014, when, according to the court, the defendant created a false Facebook social networking profile on behalf of a former colleague, using her photo and other personal data.

Through this profile, she sent "information" to a magazine about an alleged betrayal involving a model, a footballer and a woman who claimed to be his girlfriend.

The "story" was published in a magazine in March 2014 and then republished by other media.

In the next edition, the magazine published a denial by two of those involved in the case, presenting an "apology to all concerned".

To obtain evidence, the court had to resort to the information systems of Portugal Telecom, provider of telecommunications at the defendant's residence, and Facebook Business Record, about the use of two accounts.

The court underlined the seriousness of the facts, the high degree of illegality and the direct deception, alluding also to the need to put an end to this type of behaviour, "which projects a distressing feeling of insecurity in the people and communities affected".
