According to the bulletin released today, Portugal has already counted 124,432 confirmed cases of new coronavirus infection and 2,371 deaths.

Of the 28 deaths, 12 occurred in the Northern region, seven in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, four in the Centre and five in Alentejo.

The number of people in hospital has continued to rise for more than a week, with 1,747 people now, 75 more than on Monday, and of these 253 (13 more) are in Intensive Care Units.

The health authorities now have 60,063 people under surveillance, 432 more in the last 24 hours.

The DGS also reveals that 49,717 cases are active ( 883 more).

In the last 24 hours 2,388 cases have been reported as recovered, totalling 72,344 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The Northern region continues to register the highest number of new daily infections, today with 2,076 more cases, totalling 54,008, and 1,042 dead, 12 of which in the last 24 hours.

In the region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, another 961 new cases of infection have been reported, with 54,373 cases and 947 deaths (seven in the last 24 hours).

In the Centro region there were 201 new cases, accounting for 10,319 since the beginning of the pandemic and 300 deaths.

In Alentejo there were 12 new cases of infection, totalling 2,448 with a total of 42 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

The Algarve region has today reported 30 more cases of infection, totalling 2,526 cases and 25 deaths.

In the Autonomous Region of the Azores three more cases have been registered in the last 24 hours, totalling 348 detected infections and 15 dead since the beginning of the pandemic.

Madeira has registered 16 new cases in the last 24 hours, accounting for 410 infections, with no record of deaths to date.

The confirmed cases are spread over all age groups, with the highest number of infections recorded between 20 and 59 years.

In total, the new coronavirus has already affected at least 56,632 men and 67,800 women in Portugal, according to the reported cases.

Of the total number of deaths, 1,212 were men and 1,159 women.

The highest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in people over 80 years of age.

The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has killed at least 1,160,768 people worldwide since the disease was identified at the end of December, according to data collected today by the AFP news agency from official sources.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
