In comparison with the data from Thursday, which recorded 1,277 deaths, today there was an increase of deaths of 0.9 percent.

Regarding the number of confirmed cases of infection with the new coronavirus (30,200), data from the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) show that there are 288 more cases than on Thursday (29,912), representing an increase of 1 percent.

The North region has the highest number of deaths (725), followed by the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley (300), the Centre (233), the Algarve (15), the Azores (15) and Alentejo, which registers a death, advances the report of the epidemiological situation, with updated data until 24:00 on Thursday, maintaining the Autonomous Region of Madeira with no record of deaths.

According to data from the Directorate-General for Health, 659 fatalities are women and 630 are men.

Of the registered deaths, 866 were over 80 years old, 251 were between 70 and 79 years old, 116 were between 60 and 69 years old, 40 between 50 and 59, 15 between 40 and 49 and one of the patients was between 20 and 29 years.

The clinical characterization of confirmed cases indicates that 576 patients are admitted to hospitals, 32 fewer than on Thursday (-5.3 percent), and 84 92 are in Intensive Care Units, minus eight (-8.7 percent) .

There are 20,745 people recovering at home.

DGS data state that the municipality of Lisbon is the one with the highest number of cases of infection with the new coronavirus (2,107), followed by Vila Nova de Gaia (1,535), Porto (1,337) Matosinhos (1,257), Braga (1,199) ) and Gondomar (1,065).

Since 1 January, 306,171 suspected cases have been recorded, of which 2,257 are awaiting test results.

There are 273,714 cases in which the test results were negative, says the DGS, adding that the number of recovered patients rose to 7,590 (more 1,138, + 17.6 percent).

The North region continues to register the highest number of infections, totalling 16,596, followed by the region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with 9,106, the Centre region, with 3,664, the Algarve (358) and Alentejo (251).

The Azores recorded 135 cases of covid-19 and Madeira recorded 90 confirmed cases, according to the bulletin released today.

DGS also records 26,198 contacts under surveillance by health authorities.

Of the total infected, 17,566 are women and 12,634 are men.

The age group most affected by the disease is 40 to 49 years old (5,106), followed by the age group 50 to 59 years old (5,064) and people over 80 years old (4,396 cases).

There are also 4,477 patients aged between 30 and 39 years, 3,806 between 20 and 29 years old, 3,347 between 60 and 69 years old and 2,474 aged between 70 and 79 years old.

DGS also records 555 cases of children up to the age of nine and 975 of young people aged between 10 and 19 years old.

According to DGS, 41 percent of patients positive for the new coronavirus have cough symptoms, 29 percent fever, 21 percent muscle pain, 20 percent headache, 15 percent general weakness and 12 percent breathing difficulty. This information refers to 90% of confirmed cases.

The new coronavirus pandemic, which originated in December in the Chinese city of Wuhan, has already killed almost 330,000 people and infected more than 5.1 million worldwide.

More than 1.9 million patients were considered cured by health authorities.
