The advisory, issued this morning by the Portuguese Met Office, covers a total of ten districts and is the result of dry and hot weather conditions persisting well into October.
Three councils in the Algarve are covered by the maximum alert, with firefighters in Alcoutim, Tavira and São Brás de Alportel on stand-by to act with immediate effect.
