It’s epicentre was pinpointed off the coast of Carvoeiro. According to the Portuguese Met Office (IPMA), the quake did not cause injuries or damage. However, people commenting on social media claimed to have felt the tremor.

An earthquake measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale was registered yesterday evening at around 7pm around 70 kilometres South-Southwest from Albufeira.

The Richter Scale is no longer used to describe the intensity of earthquakes (and in act has not been used for many years!). The correct convention is to describe this event as a Magnitude 3.9 Earthquake.
