Electronic voting for European elections tested in Évora

In the district of Évora, the capital of Portugal’s south-central Alentejo region, the government is introducing , a pilot project of electronic in-person voting for the European elections, scheduled for 26 May 2019, the ministry of internal affairs said.

“The decision was communicated today by the assistant secretary of state and internal administration, Isabel Oneto, to the mayors of the district of Évora, at a meeting held at the headquarters of the inter-municipal community of the central Alentejo”, said the ministry in a communiqué.
According to the document, this pilot project stems from the “legislative amendments to the newly approved electoral laws” by parliament.

“The ministry of internal affairs is pleased with the receptiveness of the mayors, whose involvement is fundamental to the introduction of the project”, it concluded.
