In a statement, the Santarém District Command of the Public Security Police (PSP) stated that the arrests occurred as part of an operation, carried out between Saturday (14 December) and Monday (16 December), for the fulfilment of eight home search warrants and eight vehicle search and seizure warrants.

In addition to the 11 detainees - six men and five women, aged between 21 and 56 - seized 1,618 doses of heroin, 492 cocaine, 218 hashish, 2.52 grams of cannabis, 5,971 Euros, eight cars, 16 mobile phones, six drug sachet product sacks and miscellaneous drug packaging material.

After hearing in a first judicial interrogation, the Court of Santarém applied as coercive measures the preventive arrest for three detainees, the prohibition of contacts with people related to drug trafficking and regular bi-weekly presentations to five others and Identity and Residence Term to the remaining three, states the statement.

The operation involved elements of the Criminal Investigation Police Station of the Santarém Police Division, with the support of the Criminal Investigation Centre, several Police stations and the Special Police Unit, he adds.
