Passenger number seven million arrived last Wednesday onboard a Transavia Holland flight from Amsterdam and the celebrations began almost as soon as the Boeing 737-800 touched down.
The young woman, who told reporters she was a lover of action sports and nature, was given a toast by airport staff and offered a number of experiences to enjoy whilst in the Algarve, including cycling and gastronomy activities.
National airport management company ANA said: “With this courtesy, Faro Airport Management intended to offer its client a unique and unforgettable experience in the Algarve.”
This latest milestone comes after Faro airport reached the six million passengers a year mark in 2014 and has, since the beginning of this year, been registering growth in the region of 17.9 percent.
In related news, Faro airport is also continuing to grow in terms of the number of destinations it serves, after Irish low-cost airline Ryanair, one of the main airlines operating at the airport, announced the addition of another new route, this time to Belfast.
Belfast, along with Aberdeen, Cardiff, Hamburg, London, Marseille, Newcastle, Newquay (Cornwall) and Warsaw make up the new routes for the airline’s 2017 Faro summer calendar, taking the total number of routes it operates to and from the Algarve to 33 and upping the number of passengers it expects to carry to 2.4 million a year, or close to a third of all air passengers to Faro.
