The team won football's European championship for under-19s, beating Chelsea of London 3-1 in the final in Nyon, Switzerland.

In Monday's final - a re-match of last season's semi-final between the two sides, in which the Porto ‘Dragons’ were knocked out by the Blues - the Portuguese team scored first with a goal from Fábio Vieira after 17 minutes. Chelsea’s Daishawn Redan equalised early in the second half (53 minutes), but Porto responded with goals from Diogo Queirós (55 minutes) and Afonso Sousa (75 minutes).

Porto, who are managed by veteran left-back Mário Silva, take over as champions from Barcelona, who also beat Chelsea in last year’s finals.

The UEFA Youth League is a competition for all under-19 players registered with the 32 senior clubs that qualify for the group stage of the organisations’s senior Champions League, as well as the youth champions of all its 32 member federations.
