Fire warnings spread across the Algarve

Almost half of the Algarve has today been placed on maximum alert due to the imminent risk of wildfires.

An advisory issued this morning by the Portuguese Met Office says Monchique, Portimão, Silves, Tavira, São Brás de Alportel, Castro Marim and Alcoutim are all on the red alert due to the prevailing weather conditions.

Officials have also said that fire departments in Loulé and Lagos have been placed on orange alert as temperatures rise, coupled with a steady breeze.
