On June 24, airplanes headed to the Madeira International Airport had to be diverted to other landing strips due to a heavy fog that befell the island.

Five of the six aircrafts originated from foreign countries, with the exception having been expected to depart from Lisbon. The international flights were subsequently diverted to the Porto Santo and Canárias Airports, with the Lisbon flight being cancelled altogether.

The restrictions imposed by the Portuguese Sea and Atmosphere Institute are expected to be lifted from 6am tomorrow (June 25).
