Registration can be done by themselves, family or friends, and the goods will be sent to a delivery point near the residence, in order to ensure safety rules and ensure that food continues to reach the citizens most in need, according with the information released.
The initiative has the support of Entreajuda and is coordinated with the Volunteer Scholarship.
The food delivery point can be a social solidarity institution or a place made available by an accredited local authority.
The organization said in a statement that the volunteers involved in transporting cooked meals or products to delivery points or homes will be "properly protected.
Under the motto "Aid Cannot Stop", this action aims to "give a structured response" to a reality that is getting worse every day, according to the organization, led by Isabel Jonet, president of the Portuguese Federation of Banks Food against Hunger and Mutual Help.
"The measures taken, indispensable to prevent the contagion and spread of the disease, are creating extremely difficult and desperate situations among the most disadvantaged populations", reads the statement.
In addition it would be nice if the government would add extra money to the meal cards that employees already have in their possession. Many of these people are presently laid off and I’m certain this would help them get through this difficult time.
