The festival, which is taking place between 14 and 15 September in Lamego (Viseu), a region classified as a World Heritage Site, will see Brian Ferry being joined by acts including Mariza, Salvador Sobral and António Zambujo.

The “Wine and Music Valley” is described as more than just a music festival and instead as an event that “brings together the best of what Douro has in wine, gastronomy and breath-taking scenery, accompanied by music”.

Inspired by the wine in the Douro region, the Wine and Music Valley festival takes place in the commercial area of Lamego, next to the Douro riverside, over an area covering six hectares. The festival also takes place during the harvest season, allowing visitors the opportunity to tread some grapes “the old fashioned way” while also offering opportunities for wine tasting and show cooking experiences, said organiser Manuel Osorio.

On the first night of the event the Fado singer Mariza will take to the stage followed by António Zambujo, DJ Vibe and Filipe Vargas.

The production and promotion of the event is being overseen by Better Worlds, the same company that organises the Rock in Rio festival.

The festival has the support of the Porto tourism board and the board of Northern Portugal, and has a budget of €2 million. Organisers have confirmed that the festival is already scheduled to run for the next five years until 2023.
