A foreign citizen was detained at Humberto Delgado airport in Lisbon, in possession of 3.1 kilogrammes of heroin, enough for the illegal sale of 37,000 individual doses of the drug, the Judiciary Police (PJ) said.

According to the PJ police, the heroin was transported by the arrested man, 28-years-old from an African country, hidden within the structure of a suitcase.
The Judiciary Police said that if the drug reached illicit distribution channels, it would be enough for at least 37,000 individual doses, worth €1.1 million.

The arrest, according to the PJ, occurred during regular inspections of passengers from countries considered to be a risk, to prevent the introduction of drugs to Portugal and other European countries through international airports.
