The average cost of unleaded stands at 1 euro and 44 cents, while diesel is sold at 1 euro and 25 cents.
Petrol in Portugal is currently the sixth most expensive in Europe, 11 cents a litre above the EU average and 22 cents costlier than in neighbouring Spain .
Yet another burden for many Portuguese who try to get by on a average minimum wage of €700 a month, with many earning far less. Life for many families is very tough indeed.
