Government presents draft bill to protect UK citizens after Brexit

Portugal's cabinet yesterday approved a draft bill to be presented to parliament which proposes measures to ensure British citizens are protected if the United Kingdom leaves the European Union without an agreement.

The measures had already been announced at a cabinet meeting on 17 January and were approved yesterday. The bill forecasts reciprocity regarding Portuguese citizens residing in the U.K., and contains a suspension clause if the equivalent treatment is not verified.

It's refreshing to see the action of a responsible national Government. As far as my status here is concerned, as well as that of my fellow UK expats, I have always had more confidence in Lisbon than in Westminster.
