Three municipalities in the district of Faro and two in the district of Beja are today at “high risk” of fire due to the forecast of high temperatures, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IMPA).

According to information published on the IPMA website, the municipalities of Almodôvar and Odemira, in the district of Beja, and the municipalities of Aljezur, Silves and Alcoutim and Tavira, in the district of Faro are at "high risk" of fire.

There are also several municipalities in Leiria, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Santarém, Setúbal Portalegre, Évora, Beja and Faro with “moderate risk” of fire.

The fire risk, determined by the IPMA, encompasses five levels, ranging from "reduced" to "maximum".

The calculation is made based on the values, observed at 13:00, of the air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and amount of precipitation that occurred in the last 24 hours.

The maximum temperatures forecast for today are 34 centigrade in Santarém, 32 in Beja, 31 in Lisbon, 30 in Coimbra, 29 in Porto, Viana do Castelo, Faro and the Algarve and 27 in Bragança.
