High speed music festival heads for Portimão race track

Over the weekend of 25-27 April, Acceleration 2014, a high-speed, energy-packed music and racing festival, will be hosted at the Algarve International Race Track in Portimão as part of a “ten tracks in ten countries” pan-Europe event.

According to the organisers, Dutch company ISRA B.V., this year will be a “historical year” for the event, which takes place between April and October on ten tracks in ten European countries: Portugal, Spain, Germany, Italy, Slovakia, Belgium, France, Hungary, Croatia, and the Netherlands.
At the helms of Acceleration 2014 are two seasoned racing professionals “both on and off the tarmac”, Loek Bodelier, Chief Executive Office of the event, and Theo van Kempen, its Managing Director.
Information on the event’s website (www.acceleration14 .com) describes the Algarve leg of the event as “a multi-day festival (…) combining top class car and bike racing with live music and all kinds of entertainment.
“This unique concept is aimed not only at motorsports fans, but at all those who appreciate a convivial atmosphere where there is much to see, hear, shop, eat and drink, play, race and enjoy. Nobody will be left at home as the festival offers something to do for each member of the family, whatever the age”, organisers say.
For three days Portimão’s Autódromo will be transformed into one “big festival grounds”, where “during the day car and bike racers will fight for victory in a series of classes” and by night, will see some of the “world’s best DJs” and other musical performers vamp up the vibe .

Portimão’s event is hosted by the charismatic American actor David Hasselhoff and will feature an array of stars of the 80s and 90s on Friday night (25 April), followed by a number of today’s most popular DJs on Saturday (26 April).
The event was officially presented in Portugal by The Hoff – best known for his roles in the globally popular series Baywatch and Knight Rider – last month, in Lisbon.
Speaking at the March unveiling, David Hasselhoff told the media: “This will be a unique event like few others in the world. We have brought together racing with music. Entertainment is guaranteed both on and off the track. It is an event that aims to appeal to all members of the public and is making is debut in Portugal. Who would want to miss it? For my part, I can only guarantee that it will be a unique event with lots of surprises and fun.”
Some reports suggest there may be a star turn by KITT the car.
Names to take to the stage on Friday include Samantha Fox, 2 Unlimited, Haddaway, Turbo B/Snap!, DJ Sash, and Twenty 4 Seven, while on Saturday dance music lovers will be entertained by international DJs including W&W, Pete Tha Zouk, Alice DJ, Djeff Afrozilla, DJ Ride and Kura. Acclaimed Portuguese rock band Xutos & Pontapés has also been confirmed as part of the line-up.
