Hotel and catering workers embark on ‘fortnight of fights’

Portugal’s hotel and catering workers have this week embarked on what they term a ‘fortnight of fights’ for more rights and better salaries.

Organised by the FESAHT Federation for Portuguese Agriculture, Food and Drink, Hospitality and Tourism Unions, the nationwide actions include a strike by Faro Hospital canteen workers.

According to Francisco Figueiredo, head of the Federation, “thousands of workers [in the sector] have been the victims of companies taking advantage of the pandemic to strip them of rights and income”.

Have these people noticed that the whole tourism industry has crashed and that 80% of the personnel working in this industry is obsolete?
