Several people were injured in the scuffle at the ‘Match – Gerês Sunset’ event in Terras de Bouro, Gerês, two of whom had to be taken to hospital.

Dozens of men and women were involved in the clash at the over-18’s event, held in a locale widely agreed to be one of the most picturesque spots in northern Portugal.

The enclosure on the Caldo River is reachable by boat as well as by road, with last year’s edition seeing some 60 vessels gather there from several Portuguese and Spanish marinas, such as Lisbon, Leiria, Viana do Castelo and Vigo.

Around 4,000 people were expected to attend this year’s event, for which a maximum limit of 40 boats was set.

Footage of the brawl was captured by those at the event last Saturday evening and quickly spread across social networks.

Newspaper Diário do Minho reports that the clash broke out at 9.30pm on the Rio Caldo Bridge.

Weekly V states that football chants could have caused the fracas.

According to that same source, authorities said several people suffered cuts and bruises, but only two victims required assistance at Braga Hospital.
