The government has announced it will be maintaining its support for new farmers and
agricultural entrepreneurs after it was found some 280 new farmers set up every month.

Minister of Agriculture Assunção Cristas said on a visit to the Rural Development Professional School in Portugal’s northern town of Abrantes that the very success of the school demonstrated the importance and the demand for the school’s education programme and conveying ongoing changes in the sector.
“In recent years, there has been growth in employment in the agricultural sector and today there are 280 new farmers setting up monthly in Portugal and with the creation of ever more professional and sophisticated employment opportunities,” the minister told journalists.

She pointed out that the professional school she was visiting had doubled its student numbers over the last four years and that reflected the new perspective opening up on the sector in Portugal.
