The Regional Civil Protection and Fire Brigade of the Azores said in a press release that 39 people have been relocated, mostly on the island of Faial, which has been one of the most affected, but no victims have been registered.

In the coastal area of the municipality of Lajes on the island of Pico, around 100 people were also removed as a precaution.

According to the entity, 127 occurrences were recorded at around dawn, two on the island of Corvo, 21 on Flores, 46 on the island of Faial, 20 on Pico, 19 on São Jorge, eight on Graciosa, nine on Terceira, and two on São Miguel.

These occurrences are mainly related to road obstructions, damage to houses, fallen trees and floods, the Azorean Civil Protection said.

The organisation recommends that the population stay at home and pay attention to the information and indications of the Civil Protection.

The maximum gusts recorded by Portugal’s weather institute was 163km/h, at 8.25 a.m., in Corvo.
