The Coastal Control Unit (UCC), through the Coastal Control Detachment of Matosinhos, on 6 August, seized about ten tonnes of shark with an estimated value of €11,300 euros, in Viana do Castelo.

GNR police discovered that two fishing ships were catching sharks without being licensed to do so. As these ships have suspended fishing permits, they incur fines up to a maximum of €37,500.

Two men aged between 48 and 58 years old were identified as being responsible for the vessels, and charged for catching this specie without a license.
