A tourist of Irish nationality passed away last week in the Portuguese beach of Fonte da Telha, in Almada

According to Portuguese paper Correio da Manhã, the victim was in the company of his family while testing a kitesurf near the shore when he passed out.

Both Lifeguards and the Navy tried to assist the male, who was pronounced dead at the scene when the emergency services arrived.

The Irish Times identified the tourist as being Mr Tom Griffin, an Intel employee from Killarney.

The newspaper also cited that officials are providing the family with consular assistance.
