According to the Portuguese Met Office, last month was the coldest since the year 2000, and the 13th coolest since records began.
Average temperatures were just above 18 degrees Celsius, 1.2 degrees below averages.
Rainfall met existing averages, except in southern Portugal, where the area affected by drought increased in June
The unusually cool sea off Portugal (2°C under the long term average) coupled with the predominately north west or westerly airflow was the main reason for the cool June and May repeat itself in July, unless the pressure patterns encourage a warmer easterly or south easterly airflow off Iberia /North Africa to boost the sea temperatures.
