Leiria PJ detains suspect of domestic violence

The Judicial Police of Leiria on 30 January announced the arrest of a man suspected of crimes of domestic violence, aggravated home violations and two crimes of rape in the manner attempted against his former partner.

In a press release, the Judicial Police, through the Criminal Investigation Department of Leiria, announced that it detained a 50-year-old man on 28 January, suspected of committing crimes of domestic violence, aggravated home violation and two crimes of violation in the attempted form, occurred in the Leiria area.

"The accused constrained the victim, his ex-partner, to non-consensual sexual practices, on more than one occasion, exercising psychological and physical abuse, depriving the partner of her freedom and entering her room at night", says the same note.

The PJ informs that the knowledge of the facts was recent. The investigative efforts carried out led to the arrest of the suspect, "following the issuance of an arrest warrant out of the act, by the judicial authority".

The defendant, a locksmith by profession, was present to the competent judicial authorities, having been subjected to the enforcement measures of obligation of weekly presentations and prohibition of contact with the victim.
