Now that all the places for the final-8 of the Champions League, which starts this Wednesday in Lisbon, are filled, the French newspaper L'Equipe made a special cover to mark the start of the final stage of the competition.
The newspaper ran with the headline “Les Conquérantes”, the conquerors, and took the image of the Padrão dos Descobrimentos, then replacing the figures of the heroes of the Discoveries with the images of the stars of the eight remaining clubs.
Replacing the Portuguese explorers and heroes by football mercenaries is of extreme bad taste and disrespectful of Portuguese history!

The Portuguese Navigators were explorers and establish trade posts on behalf of the King, they were not conquerors! Compare footballers to these heroes, is just short of ridiculous!
