Most of the companies operating at the airport offer staff parking, but car parks are already saturated, that is, the companies no longer have enough spaces leaving staff forced to pay for parking in public car parks which are also saturated, thus a large number of workers have nowhere to park, the commission said.

According to TAP's CT, these employees "work in shifts, entering or leaving at times when there is no public transport to/from the places where they live, so they are forced to come in their own transport, but then have no place to park."

The protest is to include workers from TAP, Portway and Groundforce, as well as some unions and will start at 11 a.m. and end at 2 p.m., near the entrance to the Metro station at the airport.

The protest aims to alert Vinci, owner of ANA – Portugal’s airport authority to the problem.

The commission recalled that there is land next to the Figo Maduro military airbase that is not military and could be used to create more parking spaces.

"The land is owned by Lisbon City Council and a few years ago there were talks to turn it into a parking lot," they said, adding that "there was no response at that time and now a letter has been sent asking for a meeting, but they still have not responded."
